DANCE DIVINE

“The dance is occasioned by no specific need,
It has come into use because it creates beauty”.

Bharatanatyam is a dance style that combines several modes of expressions: the movement of limbs, the language of gestures or hastas, tala or rhythm as executed by the feet, poetry as sung by the musicians and bhava or facial expression.

Dancers portray characters in the Mahabharata, Ramayana and the Puranas through dance. Stories depicting the Gods and Goddesses typically have a spiritual content and a Bharatanatyam recital requires a spiritual elevation of both the artiste and the audience.

Bharatanatyam is essentially a dance of an inner expression of emotions brought about through complete devotion. The final achievement of the dancer is a sense of liberation (Moksha) and bliss (Ananda).

One of Tripti’s poems very beautifully depicts Viyoga Shringar (separation in love)

Loneliness
Road is empty, it seems too long,
My heart is humming a very sad song
Days are lonely and me all alone,
Birds used to sing they have all flown.
Leaves are falling from the trees,
Nights are harsh, so is the breeze.
Eucalyptus tries to fill my days,
Life is a fragrance softly it says;
Moon plays hide and seek in the sky,
Oh it used to be such a joy of my sight.
But now it seems a thing of past
Shadows around dark clouds have cast
Without your love everything seems cold,
Those days seem like a story untold
Warm pearl drops on my cheeks just roll’
As those beautiful memories my heart recalls.
